2024 Election INfo

In the 2024 GVEA elections, incumbent Gary Newman will keep his seat, while the two front runners from District 7 are headed for a runoff.

Newman received 52.38% of the District 4 vote, with 650 votes to challenger Harmony Tomaszewski’s 591 votes. Newman has been a strong supporter of GVEA’s Strategic Generation Plan and other efforts to transition to renewable energy sources, while Tomaszewski’s actions from previous political appointments indicate a strong support for maintaining the status quo of reliance on dirty energy sources like coal and gas.

Meanwhile in District 7, none of the candidates met the 40% threshold required to be elected, so incumbent Todd Adams and challenger Krista Zappone will head for a runoff. Adams earned 33.04% (76 votes) to Zappone’s 38.7% (89 votes). District 7 includes Nenana, Clear, Anderson, Healy, and Cantwell.
