Here are the ways you can get involved with FCAC
In a recent blog post, we talked about cultivating active hope. We named hope as that ineffable thing that animates us to move toward justice, possibly encompassing all of the things that inspire us to take action, including truth, courage, solutions, love, spite, anger, and more. We also talked about agency, which we see as inextricably tied with hope. Hope without action is wishful thinking. When we own our agency though, hope becomes power. So how do we own our agency in the midst of this chaos? By taking concrete actions toward the world we want to see.
In order to really break it down to the practical level, we wanted to outline the exact ways you can take action with FCAC to build the world you want to see.
The first step for many is to become an FCAC member. Fun fact that some don’t know - just because you receive our newsletter doesn’t mean you’re a member! To sign up as a member (which you can do if you’re unsure if you are or not), click here. By joining as a member, you’re committing to a deeper level of engagement with our climate action work, and becoming an official part of our community. As a member, you’ll receive invites to members-only events, be a part of our members-only communication network, and you’ll have access to apply for support for a new working group, space for meetings, art materials, grants, fellowships, and more. You’ll also be able to help shape the priorities of our organization.
Another way to get involved is to join a working group. Our working groups are the heart of our work. Each of these people-powered groups are driven by community volunteer leadership and utilize a particular strategy toward the FCAC mission. We highly encourage new members to deepen their engagement with FCAC’s work by signing up for a working group.
We’ve listed more info below on the strategies and current projects of each of our active working groups:
Renewable Energy Working Group
The Renewable Energy Working Group (REWG) is working to get GVEA to a goal of 80% renewable energy goal by 2040 and 100% by 2050 by supporting candidates for the GVEA board, and applying public pressure campaigns to encourage GVEA to meet their own renewable goals, as well as making those goals even bolder.
REWG is currently focusing on 2025 GVEA elections and longer term goal-setting. This working group has two sub-committees which hold specific parts of this work - our narrative team and our GVEA team.

REWG general meetings are the second monday of every month. To learn more about our work or to join a meeting, email Eleanor at eleanor@fbxclimateaction.org or fill out the interest form below!
Policy & Politics Working Group
The Policy and Politics (PoPo) Working Group is focused on ensuring that we have adequate climate action and adaptation measures at the local level. This means we engage in helping to get out the vote for local elections, and then ensuring that local elected officials are taking climate change seriously as they draft policy.
We are currently working on planning a community information session on the current state of local climate plan implementation and discussing the upcoming borough comprehensive plan process. This event will be March 5th from 6-8 PM.

We meet every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, so our next meeting will be February 24th. For more information, email Bella at bella@fbxclimateaction.org or fill out the interest form below!
Keep it in the Ground Working Group
The Keep it in the Ground (KING!) Working Group is focused on ending state support for fossil fuels, by getting rid of the current system of corporate welfare for fossil fuel corporations.
We’re currently doing some long-term goal setting work, establishing some internal committees, and working on our narrative development. Over the course of this legislative session, we will be engaging with legislators around anti-extraction legislation.
We are also hiring an organizer for our working group! We are excited to hire an enthusiastic community organizer who will support volunteer leadership and campaign strategy for the group. For more info visit fbxclimateaction.org/jobs

Interfaith Working Group
The Interfaith Working Group works with local faith leaders to encourage them to commit to the statements endorsed by their national and international organizations regarding the moral imperative for climate action, and to utilize the relationships built through those connections to build larger collective power across faiths.
We are currently planning a soup and discussion event to continue interfaith relationship building and discuss the unique role for faith communities to have earth care and solutions oriented conversations. We will also be hosting an interfaith prayer circle to offer hope for the earth and the people on it this spring, date TBD.
Are you interested in joining the Interfaith Working Group?
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, from 4:30-6:00. Email molly@fbxclimateaction.org to get more information or fill out the interest form below!
The FCAC Council serves as volunteer organizational leadership, and works to steward our organization and movement as a whole. Members of the Council help make decisions on behalf of FCAC with accountability to our membership base and community, as well as serve on committees that help with key aspects of movement growth and organizational development.
We are currently recruiting for new council members! If you are interested, or would like to nominate someone, please contact tristan@fbxclimateaction.org

SUPPORT OUR WORK THROUGH A MONETARY DONATION
We are a community based group and donations of all sizes are vital in demonstrating the depth of support financially from our community members. Our biggest resource is your commitment to this movement, with the dollars, time, creativity, and connections each of you provide. Making a financial contribution to our coalition is a great option if you do not have a lot of time to commit, but still want to help make change and support local climate action.
