How to vote local

Local elections are currently underway, and they are so important! Some of the current Borough Assembly members were elected by less than 100 votes. Your vote really counts in these elections.

You can vote between now and Tuesday, October 3rd, either via absentee ballot, early voting, or voting at your polling place on election day.

To vote absentee: You can request an absentee ballot application online or by mail. The deadline to request by mail is Tuesday, Sept 26th at 5 pm. The deadline to request online is Monday, Oct. 2nd (the day before election day) at noon, but we recommend you request your ballot as soon as possible. Whether you’ve requested your ballot by mail or online, you need to have the ballot itself postmarked by election day, and it needs to have arrived at the clerk’s office by the following Tuesday to get counted. We recommend returning it as soon as possible, ideally before election day.

To vote early: Early voting is open now, at the Shopper’s Forum mall (the one where Planet Fitness is), 9-6 pm through Friday, Sept. 29th (technically it becomes “absentee in person” on Friday and Monday), closed on the weekend, and then open again those same hours on Monday. You can also vote “absentee in-person” at the Fairbanks or North Pole city clerk’s offices. The clerk’s locations will be open from 8-5 through Friday Sept. 29th, closed on the weekend, and then open again on Monday, Oct. 2nd.

To vote on election day: Election day is Tuesday, October 3rd. If you vote on that day, you’ll be voting at your polling place, which will be open from 7 am to 8 pm. You can find your polling place here.

You can also check out a sample ballot here. Non-partisan candidate information can be found here.

You can also get many questions answered by calling the Borough clerk’s office at 907-459-1401.
